Sole & Flow
Supporting the the next generation of Canadian Hip-Hop
Concept Youth Festival
2023

Designer
Jacentea Kerlow

Goal of the project
Design a proposal for a temporary installation and activation for any of the open space(s) associated with Mississauga City Hall, Living Arts Center or the Mississauga Central Library.

Sole & Flow is a youth-based hip hop festival, focused on bringing the community together and reminding local youth that their creative endeavours are worth while and supported.

It showing them and the wider community that teens deserve to be celebrated.

The hope is, that by working with professionals, engaging in city run programming and contributing
to the overall festival itself, that they will realize what opportunities the city has to offer them.

Why This? What direction is the city of Mississauga headed in?

After extensive research into the city’s history, demographics, cultural, youth and planning documents I noticed gaps in Mississaugas youth focus initiatives.

When asked, youth identified that there isn’t enough to do around the city.
When shown a list of available programming geared specifically for them, the participants then stated that the problem is then a lack of outreach to inform them that these things exist.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how awesome of a program the city creates if the people that its for don't know about it.

Enter, Sole and Flow...

How do the onsite activations coincide with city values?
